For reasons subliminal I am compelled to covet these psychedelic, surreal collages.  The theme of identity has been permeating in the cavities of my mind as of late.  There is such mystery held in contempt here. Intentional or not, I keep trying to make out the melted faces. And every time something different shows itself.  Emir is simple in his delivery. Savor Mazzoni’s plethora of bewitching, bewildering, feminine sorcery. These mystical and delicate creatures are bound by religious beliefs to conceal their identities, knowledge, power and practice. Mystified with Italian folklore, healing flora, foliage and symbolic fauna, these obscure women seek to seduce, heal and curse. Most of these pieces were part of an exhibit titled River of Milk, a three part narrative of which two parts where comprised of The Pathetics, “pathos of emotions,” and The Muses, myths of tragic female figures such as Ophelia, Medusa and Leda. Dixie Rose

When we look at Multidisciplinary artist, Beili Liu’s work titled Encirclement, we see her engulfed by hundreds of thistle plants. Doused with prickly intuition, I can’t help but compare the true vulnerability of the human being, to the fragility of nature. They are a stream of the same in embrace. A worthy analogy energized by these two parallels, both ruled by the effects of time. This installation and performance was created as part of an artist residency program called Djerassi Artist Residency which is located in California. Dixie Rose

Jonathan’s film could be perceived as an exercise where the conscious and subconscious mind interact, in reverence to one another. They cannot exist without each other. But you must start from the end to work your way to the beginning. Dixie Rose

Alison’s imagery reverberates sorcery, oddities and the occult. The witchery of such is in how she is known to use expired film, smear dirt on her lens, blow smoke, pour water or acid (and other liquids) on her negatives. Like a witch doctor of the visceral. Dixie Rose
