YOUNG & RESTLESS S/S 2011 BY ASHBURN ENG

Young & Restless S/S 2011 - The Flying Squirrel

She woke up to her worst nightmare, feeling utmost alienated.
A foreign place she found herself to be, home to strange creatures called “humans”.
Nothing looks the same, nothing feels familiar.
But as a master of camouflage and escapism,
she soon adapts the traits of mathematical geometry.
Now she is a fusion of both worlds:
The organic attributes of the forest, her home,
and the geometrical shapes of the city landscape.

HOW TO SPEND IT MAGAZINE MAY 2010 SHOT BY ANDREW YEE

Sculptural, statuesque Alex Wek gives electrifying life to such progressive fashion, raging with seductively eccentric prints.  The visual nuances in the styling in How to Spend It Magazine’s -Andrew Yee’s editorial are engrossing down to the selection of shoes. So creatively meticulous was the art direction and styling in this shoot, her triceratop hair (the icing on the cake) accentuates a whole new trend, which I predict is about to erupt (in the urban fashion scene), if it hasn’t already been around in the Haitian, Trinidad, Jamaican fashion circles. It is very common for Caribbean/African/West Indian women to wear textiles and brooches in their hair.  I suppose there is a need for a more consciously organic fashion nowadays. Although I feel this hair fashion has been around forever, we can say culture informs fashion, as much as art, film, music and theatre.  Feast your eyes on how to righteously rock Alexander McQueen, Etro, Givenchy, and Lanvin.  Dixie Rose
