The Hello Kitty woman in me meows for contemporary artist, Tom Sachs’s Hello Kitty & friends minimalistic foamcore sculptures in exhibit @ the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac from October 23-Nov 22 and simultaneously @ the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris . His reason for being so drawn to Sanrio’s Hello Kitty is rationalized in how he views it as a “merchandising icon” with “an almost Buddhist sense of nothingness.” Yet, it seems he may have given them emotions in rendering the sculptures, ’cause eventhough they’re created speechless, tears pour out of their eyes down into their own fountain of tough times(?). I wonder why Hello Kitty didn’t ever have a mouth to begin with. I feel there may have been some cultural, social bearing in its initial creation, hence a more  subservient-looking Kitty which will always emote “friendliness,” ’cause included in her name spells “Hello.” Weeping consumerism? I would hope so-with the foreclosure plague spreading all across the US. These sculptures could be indicative of these poignant times. Dixie

Great! I too think Sachs is the cat’s meow and all that but Sanrio just might be onto something as well =(^.^)=
